National Center for Children and Families 4

For more than 100 years, the National Center for Children and Families has served this region as a private nonprofit child and family welfare agency. Nationally accredited and award-winning, NCCF’s programs are researched and evidence-based social service models. The agency employs community education and training, volunteerism and advocacy to support its mission. NCCF’s expertise is its ability to provide services that empower clients to positively transform their lives. The organization works to empower children and families to be self-sufficient, to give back and to learn to help others in the process.

NCCF envisions a society in which children, youth and families live in sustained, supportive communities, which reinforce the integrity and unity of the family. The agency advocates for services which are proactive, community-based, preventive, quality, comprehensive, consistent and address the current needs of the community, its children, youth and families. NCCF has earned its reputation as a trusted and recognized champion of the community’s most vulnerable members by supplying the love, structure and education found in healthy families and responsive communities.

NCCF propels more than 50,000 children, youth and families annually into an improved quality of life with more than 20 regional programs. A significant component of NCCF’s portfolio of services is the Neediest Kids program. The Neediest Kids targets students who go without food, adequate clothing, dental and vision care. Entirely funded by private donations, the Neediest Kids ensures no child will be unsuccessful in school due to a lack of basic essentials. In the five years since the Neediest Kids program joined NCCF, the organizations have helped the 42 percent of students in the National Capital Region distracted by the deprivation associated with poverty.

There are many ways to get involved with NCCF: donations of goods such as housewares, clothes and basic supplies make a huge difference in the lives of families in crisis; financial contributions help ensure the continuation of the mission; and volunteers are always a welcome sight. Attending events such as the NCCF’s Neediest Kids Pro-Am Invitational, a premier charity golf tournament that generates crucial funds for the Neediest Kids program, is another great way to show your support.

Volunteers can enjoy lunch from Heart and Soul Catering, NCCF’s onsite culinary crew that creates nutritious and delicious meals every day for clients, volunteers and staff. Family- and group-friendly events such as Backpacks and Brownies give you the opportunity to help provide school supplies to more than 1,000 students annually. You can also host your own drives on behalf of NCCF like community supporter Boeing did this fall. Days of service are a great team building event, and community volunteers from Keller Williams frequently helped beautify NCCF’s campus gardens. The Read Aloud program helps promote literacy from an early age, and you can volunteer to be a reader. Santa brings joy and gifts to children at NCCF’s Greentree Shelter, and you may sign up to participate in the annual Santa’s workshop, one of the many holiday parties or donate gifts.
